KEY RESPONSIBLITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Must be able to properly operate assigned equipment.
  • Maintain proper levels of plate and ends in the rotofeed and Dexter feeder, ensuring both are proper specifications and quality.
  • Perform required checks at the designated intervals and record the results on the proper forms.
  • Assist mechanics in the performance of their duties when idle.
  • Perform other work as assigned
  • Load Dexter feeder by manually pushing bundles of plate along rollers to feeder and slitter as required, operate machine by manipulating controls.
  • Remove empty pallets from Dexter feeder and stack in designated location.
  • Turn feed controls on and off to feed slitter
  • Manually remove cut tin plate from slitter and block, check for squareness and other defects, place in hopper of bodymaker and/or on bench
  • Perform required quality inspection of body blanks at the designated intervals and record the results on the proper forms
  • Record material, production and scrap information on prescribed forms
  • Remove ends from packaging and manually feed into rotofeed, visually check for defective ends, set defective ends aside for further inspection, notify quality control.
  • Visually inspect cans for seamer periodically for defects
  • Pick up trimmed scrap from slitter and place in designated container
  • Observe operation of machines for any deviation from standard performance or quality, stop machines when necessary and take corrective action or notify mechanic, restart when necessary.
  • Clear jams, using tongs or other hand tools, restart machines
  • Assist mechanics with lubrication of machines
  • When faulty operations are observed on other operating lines either notify mechanic or take corrective action
  • Wash and wipe down machines, perform other departmental related clean up
  • Cooperate with inspectors and other departmental employees
  • Perform duties with due regard to safety of self and fellow workers
  • Dispose of used packaging materials in the designated manner and in the proper locations
  • Maintain working area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Conform with all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
  • Must be accountable to adhere to all safety policies around PPE, equipment repair, safe machine operation and a safe work environment.
  • Must demonstrate lockout tagout knowledge.
  • Must be able to perform specific measurements and follow Quality Control process and control plans.
  • Must understand the key characteristics of products produced and maintain quality throughout the production process.
  • Must be able to assist maintainer in completing changeovers while adhering to the control plan.
  • Complete production paperwork and process documentation and follow standard work instructions.
  • Ability to sustain the process at budgeted units per scheduled hour.
  • Ability to manually load material into the hopper.
  • Knows, understands and is accountable for performance metrics: safety, quality, productivity and cost.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally, respectfully and clearly with co-workers and management.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The experience requirements of this job title require the applicant to have obtained sufficient experience to understand plate and end specifications, quality standards and defects, line production procedures, starting and stopping equipment, clearing minor jams, observe operation of equipment and conveying systems.  The individual must also demonstrate the capability of maintaining the rotofeed and bodymaker hopper at production levels.
  • Demonstrate an ability to perform work, in a mature and professional manner, demonstrate personal responsibility and perform all assigned duties and responsibilities in less time than lower rated employees
  • Demonstrate aptitude in the use of commonly known tools and mearuing devices required for the job.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain excellent attendance.
  • Dependable transportation and reliable
  • Ability to work any and all shifts and available to work overtime including weekends

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Technical training preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide, use decimals and fractions
  • Read and comprehend mechanical drawings, use and comprehend basic measuring instruments and understand and follow instructions

Must be able to use and read a tape measure and calculator.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is expected to work within the plant for the majority of their shift.  The noise level in the work environment is usually high and ear protection is mandatory while on the plant floor.
