Basic Function:

The Fleet Operations Manager, Corporate is responsible for managing the operations and performance of a tractor and trailer fleet.   The role will require the incumbent to navigate and consider the fleet’s various structural options (private, dedicated, hybrid) and make recommendations.   A key success factor will be the ability to work with the MPS business units and plants to ensure that fleet is properly utilized.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works cross functionally with Plant Operations and Corporate Logistics to establish policies, programs and communication involving fleet operations.
  • Develops, implements and maintains KPI’s and reports for the fleet.
  • Manages the fleet equipment strategy and procurement process.
  • Manages fleet financial reporting, evaluating and implementing improvements for metrics
  • Utilize existing ELD, Fleet Management Systems to create best in class performance.
  • Maintains awareness and compliance with all local, state, and federal fleet requirements.
  • Provides location support with analysis of fleet operations KPI’s and reports with applicable law and company policy.
  • Actively promotes fleet operational excellence as the primary motivation for all fleet operations.
  • Identifies fleet operational risks/concerns and makes recommendations or takes corrective actions to implement solutions to improve controls.
  • Communicates findings and recommendations to management and business partners, regarding escalated or high-risk fleet operational issues.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree/major in supply chain, logistics, transportation or business or applicable combination of education and work experience
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in transportation operations / logistics or transportation procurement (analyst moved up to manager).
  • Experience with carrier negotiations, agreements and tariffs.
  • Knowledge of all modes of transportation, especially TL, IMDL, LTL and fleet.
  • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time for business purposes (US and Canada).
  • Experience with TMS and 3PL solutions.
  • Knowledge of DOT, IATA, IMDG code, 49 CFR, US Census Bureau, Customer and other governmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing private/dedicated fleet programs preferred
  • Must be self-directed with ability to work cross functionally with Plant Operations and Corporate Logistics to establish policies
  • Excellent time management skills and outstanding problem-solving capacity
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and ability to translate findings into action items and to communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, ambiguous and changing environment
  • Microsoft Office Suite expertise in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
