Position Summary:

The Machinist Technician performs repair, trouble shooting, and mounting of stamping die & press components by machining steel, cast & non-ferrous materials.  Skilled in operation of tool room equipment.  Can construct & fabricate to schematics, blue prints, drawings & manufacturer manuals.  The role is integral to the York Refurbishment Center which is an operation designed to rebuild stamping press equipment serving the Metals Segment of MPS Small Packaging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Capable of taking drawing to part using manual machining techniques
  • Machines parts by measuring, marking, setting up and operating mill, drill, turn, grind, etc.
  • Program, set up and operate CNC machining equipment (preferred)
  • Inspecting work output and recording the results to ensure the required quality is maintained
  • Confirms parts by measuring with tools such as micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, thickness gauges
  • Diagnoses problems, disassembles and assembles fitting parts for form, fit and function
  • Uses safe methods of machining to accomplish the desired output.
  • Seeks opportunities to develop technical and trouble-shooting abilities.
  • Maintains, cleans and lubricates equipment
  • Manages cutting tool inventory systems
  • Maintain clean and organize work area, tools and tooling through 5S.
  • Provide peer to peer leadership to others in the York Refurbishment Center.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally, respectfully and clearly with co-workers and management.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • 3 Years of experience in the field
  • Technical College student (Engineering preferred)
  • Experience with Microsoft office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Sound mechanical abilities including knowledge of design techniques, measuring instruments, comparator, hand power tools, principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, models, burning and welding equipment, hoists and hand carts.
  • Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to machining problems.
