Job Description

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller with responsibilities for managing day-to-day accounting functions, month-end close activities, internal and external reporting, and annual audits. This position contributes to the timely and accurate issuance of financial statements and provision of meaningful analysis of variance on business performance. The Assistant Controller will engage regularly with internal and external partners so effective partnership skills and strong communication is highly desirable.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide mentorship to the professional development of the accounting team
  • Day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, A/R, A/P, taxes and fixed assets
  • Create, maintain and ensure the accuracy of capitalization tables and debt schedules between the Company’s various entities, investors and creditors
  • Assist the Controller in managing the monthly accounting close process including journal entry review, account reconciliations and variance analysis to deliver complete, accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Research and document technical accounting issues and implement new accounting pronouncements
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure the highest level of efficiency and customer service while maintaining appropriate internal controls and compliance with GAAP
  • Review various contracts and leases to ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Provide supporting documentation for company tax returns and audits
  • Provide accounting support for corporate and operations functions
  • Ad hoc reports, analysis and reporting
  • Drive process improvement and efficiency in all accounting and close functions including ERP enhancements
  • Develop the accounting team through strong managerial skills, training, education, and continuous improvement programs.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA is a plus
  • 10 years’ experience in progressively responsible accounting roles in both public accounting and a corporate accounting department; manufacturing experience is a plus
  • 5 to 7 years of proven leadership experience with direct supervision of staff and the ability to motivate a team to produce quality materials within tight deadlines and simultaneously manage multiple projects
  • Technical Accounting knowledge/proficiency: solid understanding of GAAP and experience in researching technical accounting issues
  • Experienced in implementing/maintaining internal controls
  • Experienced with top-tier ERP systems
  • Self-starter who will challenge the status quo
  • Excellent Excel skills
