Position Summary:

The Transportation Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day transportation operations of a manufacturing plant to include safety, quality, efficiencies and meeting customer expectations.  Provides leadership to supervision and employees and ensures they have the proper tools to perform their job safely and efficiently.

Essential Functions

  • Provides ongoing leadership to plant operations and warehouse employees to ensure employee safety, quality and delivery performance for the plant.
  • Gives daily direction on shipping and receiving schedules, unscheduled down times and is responsible for the efficient utilization of all team members.
  • Works with corporate logistics team to freight shop carriers to reduce transportation costs
  • Calculate the current profit and loss of our transportation resources and make recommendations for improvements
  • Analyze the efficiency of our vendors and make recommendations for improvements
  • Maintains Skybitz trailer tracking system to eliminate lost trailers and under-utilized trailers
  • Responsible for right-sizing the fleet and managing all owned and leased trailers
  • Manage trailer maintenance and repair budget
  • Provides leadership in improving operating efficiencies, such as problem resolution, manages complexity and strives to be proactive.
  • Works directly with customer service to ensure on-time deliveries and customer satisfaction
  • Enforces plant rules, monitors attendance and provides corrective action (discipline) as necessary.
  • Reviews safety guidelines, workplace safety policies, DOT regulations and OSHA requirements with yard employees and yard contractors.
  • Leads delivery coordination and planning with all third party freight partners
  • Responsible for correct billing, fuel surcharges, and freight costs to ensure SOX compliance

 

 

Job Requirements

Key Attributes / Behaviors

  • Bachelor’s degree and seven years’ experience working with emphasis on Supply Chain, Transportation or Logistics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, ERP system and production planning systems
  • Advanced analytical abilities
  • Possess the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure the facility has the proper operational controls and work to meet or exceed expectations with a sense of urgency
  • An understanding of basic profit and loss calculations
  • Team player, problem solver, good coaching/teaching skills
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Results oriented, hands-on management style
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) with strong facilitation abilities
  • Is a team player that expresses integrity in every action and respect for all
