Supervisor-Tool Room

This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in operating procedures. Manages tool and consumable goods and transactions.  Responsible for leadership functions of a fast-paced lean based machining operation. Accountable for the efficient use of people and resources to achieve financial and operational goals for the department and overseeing the day to day operations of the tool room.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development. Recommends employment decisions. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution. Track absenteeism, vacation, and timekeeping and ensure all Company policies and plant rules are followed
  • Maintains day to day responsibilities of work scheduling, quality, and interfacing with other supervisors and managers as needed to meet the production schedule.
  • Implement manufacturing methods, quality standards, and perform cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
  • Identifies and directs implementation of improvement opportunities by securing relevant information, asking effective questions, and developing solutions.
  • Resolves problems relating to materials, operations, quality or other factors that may result in production delays.
  • Interacts with applicable engineering staff on piece part design, process development and improvement.
  • Responsible for inventory control of consumables and tools
  • Coordinates and oversees the activities of the tool room employees and tool & die makers engaged for tool making and general die maintenance and at the press machines.
  • Ensures data is entered into tool tracking software as necessary
  • Manages min/max levels for all tools and communicates back orders in timely manner
  • Ensures orders for tool and consumable material as needed and purchase orders written as required
  • Ensure completion of tool order log entry on a daily basis
  • Performs inventory to ensure accurate inventory levels are met to fulfill orders and maintain accurate reports
  • Reviews reports and resolves operational manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum cost or delays.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

This position manages all hourly employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and accountability of the employees within that department.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 3-5 years of relative experience required
  • 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment
