Position Summary:

 Collects sample metal packaging finished products, components and raw materials and tests/inspects at various stages of the production processes. Compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products. Follows inspection, test plan in accordance with quality system standard operating procedures to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established standards. Completes quality records, reports, logs and notes on samples, tests, production records, etc. Uses knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements while completing all records, test methods and other tasks. The hours of this position are 5:50pm to 6:00am working a rotating 12 hour shift.

Responsibilities

  • Performs quality assurance testing as required in the production control plans to ensure product meets internal and customer specifications.
  • Performs additional testing as required by quality manager or supervisory personnel.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities and specifications of metal containers to coordinate department operations.
  • Actively participates in monthly meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensures priorities and sequences for manufacturing products are followed.
  • Seeks to identify methods for improving SOP's and other working practices.
  • Observes production operators and production equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards and operating efficiency.
  • Communicates the results of any testing that pertains to non-conforming product to shift supervisor, quality manager, and/or plant manager.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Follows all safety rules and procedures and observes the operations to ensure a safe work environment for the employees and others.
  • Upholds site and corporate policies, procedures and work instructions.

 Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to read and understand basic product drawings/specification sheets. Be able to efficiently log test and inspection results and communicate the results effectively to plant management. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability required for successful job completion.

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 regulations, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement is preferred.
  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience in metal forming, can making or other packaging environment preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year quality assurance or quality control experience required.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, government. manuals, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, both hand written and via email.
  • Ability to speak respectfully, professionally and effectively with other plant employees.
  • Ability to apply basic concepts of math, algebra and geometry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is required to stand; use arms and hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may work with materials that could irritate eyes, skin and breathing. This will require use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The employee will be working near and/or with high-speed automated equipment. This may cause risk of injury if safety procedures are not followed. The work environment is often noisy and hearing protection is required.
