Position Summary: The Production Manager is responsible for leading day to day operations of a manufacturing location/area to drive continuous improvement in the areas of safety, quality, productivity and customer satisfaction.  Provides leadership to supervision and employees and ensures they have the proper tools to perform their job safely and efficiently.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and compliant production of steel drums made to customer specifications, distribution of other industrial containers, and stages for on time shipment
  • Ensures team is properly staffed, and employees are properly trained in all aspects of their jobs to include safety, quality and production. Promotes an environment of accountability.
  • Promotes cross-training for employee growth and development and to build operations depth
  • Ensures inventory of production materials is sufficient for production needs.  Works with suppliers from order entry to receipt. Assists with physical inventory management.
  • Prepares and reviews any and all production, safety and quality concerns and takes leadership role in resolution.
  • Actively participates in the site’s safety and quality management programs. 
  • Participates and practices Lean Manufacturing practices to include Six Sigma, FMEA, 8D Problem Analysis.
  • Establishes and implements improvements for cost reduction, quality assurance and production.
  • Identifies and assists with continuous improvement opportunities
  • Partners with maintenance to ensure equipment is properly operated and ready for servicing, as needed
  • Reviews Key Performance Indicators (Daily, Weekly and Monthly) to ensure facility is on track to meet overall departmental objectives.
  • Interfaces with Customer Service, Transportation, and Operations team members to discuss production schedules and changes in the schedule that are needed.
  • Works with supervision to ensure vacancies are covered for vacations or any absences related to fulfilling production schedule requirements.
  • Interfaces with Customer Service, Sales, customers and suppliers and supports, as needed
  • Implements proactive and corrective maintenance practices relating all production equipment. This includes scheduling any production line maintenance or improvement project and support, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in operations, maintenance, transportation, engineering and/or process improvement roles including managing teams of people
  • Previous experience working in a Lean environment preferred
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification a plus
  • Union experience a plus
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred, but not required
