Shift Supervisor

II Job Summary

Lead the shift team members for their area, in terms of people, production and improvement responsibilities.

Ill Essential Functions

1.) Rigorously apply safety standards, ensure all team members actively adhere to safety standards and identify any potential risks in their area.

2.) Check that 6S standards are applied and encourage team members to use them for continuous improvement of

their working environment.

3.) Communicate to all team members daily on their previous shift performance, and the priorities for the coming shift, and actively encourage strong teamwork to achieve them.

4.) Train, observe and coach all team members, including temporaries.

5.) Obtain Shift Supervisors' support to motivate and solve all people management issues amongst their team.

6.) Through deep knowledge of the people, products and processes in their area, anticipate and/or react quickly to anything which disturbs the achievement of the shift production plan (safety, quality, delivery and cost).

7.) Work closely with all team members to identify and eliminate causes of disturbances on the shift.

8.) Lead their teams' improvement effort especially through observing, training and discussing with team members to find out and eliminate causes of variation.

9.) Cover for Operators on machines for breaks or in case of absence - up to approximately 30% of their time on any one day.

10.) Support tool and color changes.

IV Job Qualifications

1.) High School or Technical School graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.) Proven organization capability to prepare, communicate and monitor the implementation of plans in detail and interact well with others.

3.) Prior experience of working in a shop floor environment, with a minimum of 6 months experience in blow molding

or plastics environment and 2 years in manufacturing.

4.) Comfortable to work with technical support colleagues to deal with machine issues.

5.) Good with people skills - especially treat team members with respect and fairly, communicate clearly, listen and coach and able to say 'no' firmly.

6.) Basic literacy and numeracy, including able to read, write and speak English.

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing Environment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Understand plant safety guidelines and pass all required safety training
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Troubleshoot problems and report issues
  • Must work well in team environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to be on feet up to 8-12 hours per shift
  • Use of hands and fingers to perform job function
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend and climb
  • Able to lift 551bs over head and stand, crouch and climb to perform duties. 
  • Able to work in a safe but sometimes noisy, smelly or dusty environment, with moving mechanical parts.
