Job Function:

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the direct management and planning of goods and materials for use by the organization, and the organization movement and supply of raw materials within the plant. This includes creating specific forecasts for items over a given time span, which shall be used for inventory management purposes, strategic ordering, and vendor selection.

S/he will make sure that materials required for running the production lines are always available in a cost effective way and will continuously identify material-related opportunities for cost reduction.

  • Determining the required materials and possibly generating purchase orders.
  • Ensuring materials meet specifications, quality standards, and are cost-efficient.
  • Ensuring the consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for production.
  • Oversee and schedule inventory events 2-3 times per year. 
  • Retrieve and/or generate drum specifications sheets by request.
  • Coordinating with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, etc.
  • Tracking production volume and monitoring customer demand patterns.
  • Scheduling and overseeing the supply and delivery of materials and products.
  • Liaising with operations, manufacturing, and purchasing.
  • Managing inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations.
  • Identify new or potential sources, trends or applications as they develop.
  • Coordinates all incoming production material schedules.
  • Maintains overall inventory control, to maximize available space and ensure JIT and FIFO shipping receiving practices.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as required.

 

 

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Degree in business, logistics, inventory management, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, purchasing, or a related position.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain management.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to anticipate, quantify and adapt to changing parameters in a time sensitive environment.
  • Will work closely with internal materials personnel, Operations/Plant Managers, Accounting, Audit Personnel and external suppliers.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a variety of situations and levels.
