POSITION                  Operations Manager

 

REPORTS TO:         Plant Manager

 

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position provides operations leadership to the Injection Molding manufacturing plants to continuously improve the performance of the facility with regards to safety, quality, service and cost. This position is essential to insure the production of quality products on a timely basis for our customers. The Operations Manager will be proactive leader that combines good interpersonal skills and basic technical knowledge of molding operations with a hands-on approach to managing the department. The Operations Manager is responsible to ensure that scheduling, safety, maintenance, quality and other areas are maintained for the efficient operations of the facility. In addition, the Operations Manager determines the employment status, i.e., recruiting, selecting, hiring and terminating of the workforce.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. MANAGE EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE
  • Conduct performance review with employees.
  • Documenting and conducting disciplinary action.
  • Ensure employees have necessary skills and schedule training as necessary to fill gaps.
  • Establish succession plans for key roles within the shift.
  • Monitor attendance records, vacation schedules and payroll.
  • Ensure consistent application of policies.
  • Participate in employee selections and hiring; provide recommendations for promotions.
  1. DRIVE CONTINOUS IMPROVEMENT
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Communicate and implement Corrective Actions resulting from customer complaints and internally identified opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize all allocation of resources and labor.
  • Communicate with other functional areas and other shifts to maintain optimum safety, productivity and quality.
  • Lead Kaizen events and 5S initiatives.
  • As member of the site leadership team: develop, track and improve department metrics.
  1. PROVIDE DIRECTION
  • Minimum of 50% of time spent on the manufacturing floor.
  • Resolve conflicts and issues that arise to include but not limited to production, staffing, and quality; allocate resources as necessary.
  • Oversee and direct the troubleshooting of a variety of technical problems with assistance from tooling, maintenance, distribution and other functional areas as needed.
  • Provide leadership in times of emergency, evacuation or employees injuries.

 

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Provides supervisory and technical leadership to the plant. Provides focused attention to the quality of the product and processes of the plant’s injection/blow molded businesses, and insures the safe, efficient and timely operations of manufacturing. Some of the challenges of this position the implementation of standardized processes and disciplines as well as the coordination of the workforce with production and scheduling demands. Must be able to deal with manpower and resource limitations in the plant. The Operations Manager must attend Plant Manager meetings as a key member of the plant management team.  In addition the Operation Manager must be able to act in the capacity of the Plant Manager when that individual is absent, with the expectation of moving into the Plant Manager position upon current PM’s departure.

 

 

Job Requirements

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

This position requires a minimum of 5 years experience in a related position in the injection/blow molding industry, with a preferred background in packaging manufacturing. BS degree in Manufacturing Technology.  The position requires progressive knowledge of the injection/blow molding process, molding equipment and mold tooling.
