Basic Function:

The Fleet Manager is responsible for assisting in the recruitment of quality drivers into the fleet, maintaining detailed records of vehicle servicing and inspection and scheduling regular vehicle maintenance to ensure operational efficiency and other duties related to DOT Compliance or operations. Moreover, the Fleet Manager will need to discipline drivers who are not making efficient use of their time. This position requires excellent leadership and decision-making skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee maintenance of tractors and trailers for deliveries
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Approve invoices, reconcile driver credit card statements, and maintain AP records related to the fleet
  • Develop and provide safety training on a quarterly or semiannual basis
  • Recruitment of quality drivers into the fleet
  • Support and align a team of dispatchers, mechanics, and drivers
  • Responsible for 1,500 trailers, 30 tractors, and 35 employees
  • Ensure drivers adhere to Hours of Service laws and KPI targets
  • Registering and licensing all vehicles in the private fleet
  • Finding ways to cut costs and maximize profits
  • Developing strategies for greater fuel efficiency and managing idle time
  • Maintaining detailed records of vehicle servicing and inspection
  • Complying with U.S. Department of Transport laws and regulations
  • Complete UCR, IFTA, MCS-150 on annual / quarterly / bi-annual basis
  • Scheduling roadside service for vehicles when breakdowns occur
  • Implement new systems and analyze data to improve operational efficiency
  • Monitoring driver behavior and ensuring a high level of customer service
  • Enforce and abide by the Union contacts
  • Report and document employee injuries or vehicle accidents
  • Investigate and/or contest citations
  • Utilize GPS systems to monitor drivers and track vehicles in case of theft
  • Other corporate projects on request


Job Requirements

  • Degree in Logistics or Management preferred
  • 4+ years in a logistics role
  • Experience in the transportation industry
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite and Google Drive
  • Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills
  • Quantitative ability
  • Attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
