Position Summary

The Facility Manager is responsible for the strategic direction, leadership and overall administration of plant operations.  He or she will oversee staffing, production and effectively and efficiently oversee the development and direction of the facility team to drive the growth of production, revenue and the quality of goods produced in the division.  

Responsibilities

  • Understand the Company vision and provide leadership for developing and directing manufacturing and plant initiatives for all product lines. 
  • Develop and implement new business strategies for creating or improving processes and procedures to improve corporate performance. 
  • Support new product development and continuous improvement by integrating tools (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.) into processes.
  • Drive quality management program (e.g. ISO) by establishing and maintaining a quality policy, measure and monitor quality objectives by ensuring availability of resources and by conducting management reviews.
  • Monitor divisional performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken if necessary. 
  • Meet regularly with department leads and supervisors; facilitate resolution of issues/problems between departments.
  • Enhance, develop and negotiate relations with key customer accounts.
  • Responsible for recruitment, hiring, terminations and performance management of facility staff. 
  • Responsible for maintaining, enhancing and negotiating relations with collective bargaining unit. 
  • Manage the morale in the division by setting and demonstrating a strong business ethic for dealing with employees, suppliers and customers and consistent with Corporate direction.
  • Enhance and develop policies, procedures and service systems to meet the goals of the division.
  • Review and approve plans for the control of planned output, budget spending, material efficiency, engineering effectiveness, and human resources.
  • Budget preparation and monitoring of P&L. 
  • Monitor financial performance to ensure the division is meeting or exceeding budgetary commitment. 
  • Analyze and report on the plant’s daily, monthly and annual key performance indicators and industry trends. 
  • Other duties as assigned or required at the discretion of the Director, Operations – Western Canada.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or commerce; equivalent experience may be considered 
  • 5-10 years of operations experience in a distribution or reconditioning environment. 
  • 5-7 years of supervisory experience with ability to coach, mentor, motivate and lead a team. 
  • Intermediate experience with planning, inventory management, financials and budgeting.
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal, listening and presentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with a proactive approach and strong problem-solving skills.
